Indigenous Counseling

I am white/non-Indigenous with specialized training and experience in counseling people who identify as Indigenous. My approach includes providing a compassionate and intentional space where Indigenous clients can explore issues unique to their identity, experience, and worldview. Some issues that often arise include:

  • Tribal enrollment/disenrollment
  • Multicultural identity and self-esteem
  • Impacts of Indian Boarding Schools
  • Generational trauma
  • Persistent grief and mourning due to historical trauma
  • Vicarious trauma due to historical trauma
  • Stress and anxiety related to MMIWP
  • Lateral violence and oppression
  • Behavioral health issues (alcohol, substances, suicidality)

When healing the impacts of historical trauma, there is often a focus on reconnecting to culture and community. I am happy to work alongside elders, spiritual leaders, and traditional practices related to health and wellbeing. I will not try to be an expert on your culture or history or violate closed cultural practices.

As part of reparations related to ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous people, I offer sliding scale services to 2-3 individuals on an annual basis. You do not need to be enrolled in a tribe to qualify. Please reach out for more information.
